“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”
-Pablo Picasso
Our story:
I have always been drawn to art and using my creativity to bring joy into my life. I have explored many different mediums throughout my life—including charcoal and graphite drawing, pottery, beadwork, fiber arts, candle making, and more! Making art has always been an outlet that has brought me joy, and a sense of meaning and purpose.
My sister-in-law introduced be to stained glass shortly after my family and I moved back home to Iowa. I immediately became obsessed and began spending all of my time researching the art—watching videos and seeking out advice in social media groups. I created a tiny studio space in the corner of our garage and purchased my own supplies. I encountered a lot of barriers during my first year, mostly because there wasn’t a variety of free resources available within the stained glass community.
As I started to share my journey on my social media with friends and family, I began receiving messages asking if I was going to be selling my art. I enjoyed what I was doing and it felt so good knowing that my support system wanted to spend their money on something that I created. I knew I had to say ‘yes!’ And thus—Tiny Glass Shop was born.
Since our beginning, Tiny Glass Shop has grown into so much more than what it started as. While the extra income is nice—I have made it my focus to build our community and share the joy of this art with others. We believe that everyone is an artist in some capacity.
You can find some of our pieces at shops throughout our beautiful state, including the Octagon Gallery and Back Alley Houseplants in Ames. This year, you can find us at Made + Found Midwest—an incredible market with a vibe that’s beyond some of the biggest makers markets in our state. You will also find us at Formed & Made, a market close to home that was founded by one of our local artists, Ebony from Formed Clay Designs.
In the past year, our physical studio space has expanded, and we are finally able to offer classes—something that our customers and supporters have been asking from us for a long time.
Here at Tiny Glass Shop, we welcome artists of all skill levels and backgrounds.
